Meet Katie McHugh Akbar, mom of Zaid, Yellow door Afternoons

BOARD POSITION: Parent Education/CCPPNS representative

Coordinate one-time parent education events (like the recent child sexual abuse prevention program) as well as coordinating the monthly parent round table support group. I also represent HRNS at the council of all the co-op preschools in our region (CCPPNS).

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT BEING ON THE BOARD AND YOUR POSITION ON THE BOARD?

I really enjoy the fact that because we offer these different Parent Ed events, a parent's participation in one of the events can potentially result in so many positive outcomes - a happier family, a safer child, a more supported parent.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO BE ON THE BOARD?

When you put more energy into something, you get more out of the overall experience.

WHY DO YOU LOVE HRNS?

We love the play-based, parent-involved environment.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE HRNS?

Our former neighbors chose HRNS first and we just happily followed them!
